Since the introduction of the Make in India campaign in 2016, a total of 79 contracts have been signed under the initiative, 46 of which are being led by Indian prime contractors, according to figures released on 5 February.
The 79 capital contracts amounted to INR1.28 trillion (USD19.9 billion) and were signed up to the end of November 2017. Of these, 46 were worth INR442 billion and led by Indian contractors, and 33 were worth INR838 billion and led by foreign industry.
The Defence Procurement Procedure – 2016 (DDP-2016) came into effect on 1 April 2016, with the aim of streamlining and simplifying the way by which defence procurement remains within India.
