SpaceX on 6 February debuted its Falcon Heavy rocket with a successful launch at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.
The company successfully landed the two side core boosters on land simultaneously. The third centre core booster was to land on an unmanned barge in the Atlantic Ocean, but the video feed ended during descent. Company founder, CEO and lead designer Elon Musk said on Twitter that the upper stage had a nominal restart and its apogee was raised to 7,000 km.
Falcon Heavy is the first US heavy-lift vehicle developed since United Launch Alliance’s (ULA’s) Delta IV made its first flight in 2002.
