The Russian ambassador to the United Nations, Vassiliy Nebenzia, has said there is currently insufficient evidence to conclude that Iran has violated Security Council resolutions by supplying weapons to Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthis) group.
In a brief interview published on the Russian Mission to the UN’s website on 31 January, Nebenzia was asked whether Russia thought there was a case against Iran at the Security Council. “Is it [the evidence] conclusive right now?” he responded. “No.”
Nebenzia was speaking after UN Security Council ambassadors were shown an exhibition of evidence that Iran is supplying weapons to Ansar Allah, which was unveiled in Washington by US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley on 12 December 2017.
