Inability of Bosnian Serb opposition to agree joint electoral list to weaken challenge to president's re-election

Alliance for Change (Savez za promjene: SzP), the main opposition coalition in Republika Srpska (RS), Bosnia's Serb entity, has been unable to agree a joint list of electoral candidates for key government positions in the state- and entity-level elections scheduled for October.

So far, the only nominated candidate is the current Serb member of Bosnia's tripartite presidency, Mladen Ivanić, whose candidacy was approved by his Party of Democratic Progress (Partija demokratskog progresa: PDP). However, his candidacy is yet to be recognised by PDP's coalition partners, in particular the Serbian Democratic Party (Srpska Demokratska Stranka: SDS), the largest party in the coalition.
