Wilayat Khorasan attack kills at least five people in Afghanistan's Nangarhar

25 January 2018

AT LEAST five people - including two Save the Children staff, a security guard, and a soldier - were killed and 24 others were wounded when unidentified militants detonated a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) before storming the office of Save the Children in the city of Jalalabad in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on 24 January, Reuters reported. The militants were reportedly armed with small-arms and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs). Islamic State's Wilayat Khorasan claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed to have targeted British, Swedish and Afghan institutions. Afghan officials stated that five attackers were killed during clashes with security forces that lasted for around 10 hours following the initial attack.
