China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) commissioned its latest Jiangdao-class (Type 056/056A) corvette on 15 January, according to a report published on the PLA’s 81.cn website.
Named Wuhai (with pennant number 540), the 89 m-long vessel was commissioned into the PLAN’s North Sea Fleet during a ceremony held at a naval port in the city of Dalian in China’s northeastern Liaoning Province.
The vessel was built at Liaonan shipyard and launched in September 2016, according to Jane's Fighting Ships .
Similar to all of the Jiangdao-class corvettes that entered service with the PLAN in 2017, Wuhai is of the Type 056A variant, which features hull-mounted, towed-array, and variable-depth sonars for anti-submarine warfare operations.
This variant is also equipped with the standard fit of four anti-ship missile launchers, an H/PJ-26 single-barrelled 76 mm gun, two 30 mm H/PJ-17 mountings, an 8-cell HHQ-10 short-range surface-to-air missile launcher, and two triple-barrelled torpedo launchers.
