BAE Systems contracted to integrate APKWS II onto USMC legacy Hornets

10 January 2018

The US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded BAE Systems a USD577,300 contract to integrate the WGU-59/B Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II (APKWS II) onto F/A-18A-D Hornet strike fighters.

The contract, which was awarded on 3 October 2017 but not disclosed until 10 January, did not reveal a timeline to when the guided 70 mm rocket system will be fitted onto US Marine Corps (USMC) legacy Hornet combat aircraft.

BAE Systems developed the APKWS in partnership with the US government to provide fixed- and rotary-wing pilots with a low-collateral-damage precision-guided weapon for use against soft and lightly armoured targets.
