The Republic of Korea Marine Corps (RoKMC) has received two amphibious support variant of the KUH-1 Surion light utility twin-engine helicopter from country’s Defense Acquisition Procurement Agency (DAPA).
The aircraft, which has been referred to by official news agency Yonhap as the MUH-1 or ‘Marineon’ helicopter, has been developed by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI). The MUH-1 can carry up to nine troops, and has an endurance of more than three hours when flown with a supplementary fuel tank, according to a Yonhap report on 10 January.
The helicopters are part of a KRW800 billion (USD744 million) programme, which was first announced in April 2013.
