India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a INR19.49 billion (USD307.36 million) contract with Boeing on 5 January for a simulation-based training solution for the Indian Navy’s (IN’s) fleet of Boeing P-8I Neptune long-range maritime multi-mission aircraft.
IN officials said the US-based company will provide its P-8I Training Solution alongside a 10-year comprehensive maintenance service.
“This [simulator] will help train IN personnel at low cost, saving precious machine hours on P-8Is, which will consequently be available for more frequent deployment,” IN spokesman Captain D K Sharma told Jane’s .
According to the Indian government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), the training facility will be commissioned at the naval air station INS Rajali, near Arakkonam, by March 2021.
