The Philippines government has approved funding of PHP12 billion (USD242 million) to procure “combat utility helicopters” for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The funding was announced by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) in late December 2017 and covers the acquisition of 16 platforms, with funds sourced from the revised AFP modernisation programme.
The funds were allocated in the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO), which releases capital for specific projects and allows procurement agencies – in this case the Department of National Defense (DND) – to issue a tender or award a contract.
