South Korean shipbuilder Samkang M&T announced on 28 December that it had been awarded a contract to build a 1,500 ton offshore patrol vessel (OPV) for the Korea Coast Guard (KCG).
According to disclosure documents released by Samkang, the contract, valued at KRW60.99 billion (USD56.9 million), came into effect on 27 December and will conclude on 11 December 2020. To this end, the shipyard has received an initial sum of KRW3.4 billion towards the OPV project.
Samkang, which specialises in building offshore platforms and support ships, was recently granted permission to build naval and coastguard vessels by the South Korean government.
