A keel-laying ceremony for the fifth Alexandrit-class (Project 12700) minesweeper, Yakov Balyayev , was held at Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in St Petersburg on 26 December. The Russian Navy has a requirement for 40 Alexandrit-class minesweepers, with eight currently on order. First-of-class Alexander Obukhov was commissioned on 9 December 2016, while another three hulls – George Kurbatov, Ivan Antonov, and Vladimir Emelyanov – are at different stages of construction. Yakov Balyayev is expected to be launched by 2019 and will be commissioned into the Pacific Fleet.
