Poland’s helicopter tender may start in early 2018, the secretary of state in the Ministry of National Defence has said. Bartosz Kownacki told the Polish news channel TVP Info on 17 December that the exact date will depend on the companies that bid, as they have asked for more time for analysis to properly prepare for the tender and provide complete documentation. Poland does not want to rush the whole process as it could exclude some of the companies, which would be bad for the taxpayer, he said.
He repeated that consolidating all helicopter requirements into one platform was a mistake and that canceling the Airbus Helicopters H225M Caracal deal was a good move, citing Polish media reports that the French military had low availability rates with the helicopter type.
