ECOWAS 30-day deadline to Guinea-Bissau unlikely to lead to resolution of political impasse; protests and riots likely

Regional body the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has said it is “disappointed with the absence of progress in the peace process” in Guinea-Bissau and has issued a 30-day deadline for the country to resolve its two-year political crisis, local media reported on 16 December.

The impasse has caused policy paralysis and stalled economic reforms due to the loss of external support over political concerns.
