Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has outlined her plans to “shake up” the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) to accelerate procurements and stimulate efforts to boost self-sufficiency.
Sitharaman, who took office in September, told a conference in New Delhi on 14 December held by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) that she has put in place a number of reforms across the MoD to improve efficiencies.
“There is a sense of making sure that every aspect of this large ministry is given a shake up and made to say, ‘what is it you could do to speed up; what is it you can do to remove the flab, and how fast can you move’,” she told the conference in comments published by FICCI.
