Qatari pilots and ground crew will be integrated into a UK Eurofighter Typhoon squadron for work-up training ahead of the Middle East country taking delivery of its own aircraft in 2022.
A new UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon, 12 (Bomber) Squadron will take on the Qatari training role after it relocates to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, according to the UK defence equipment and support minister, Harriett Baldwin.
Baldwin made the announcement at an event in London on 14 December to celebrate Qatar’s national day and follows the signature of an agreement earlier this month by the UK government to sell the Gulf state 24 Typhoon aircraft and support services under deal worth up to GBP 6 billion (USD8 billion).
