Qatar contract will not prevent BAE Systems job cuts

13 December 2017

BAE Systems has confirmed that a new GBP5 billion (USD6.7 billion) contract from the Qatari government for the Eurofighter Typhoon will not affect the planned job cuts that the company announced.

The 10 December order for 24 aircraft has been touted as the largest export deal for the Typhoon in a decade, but nevertheless, the company will not reverse any of the planned job losses that the UK division of the manufacturer is due to carry out under plans revealed in October.

“This order extends Typhoon production further into the next decade and therefore helps sustain jobs and capabilities in the longer term,” a company spokesperson told Jane’s on 12 December.
