The US Navy (USN) filled in top leadership spots this week with Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer swearing in both a new undersecretary and an assistant secretary for research, development, and acquisition.
Thomas Modly, a former navy helicopter pilot, who most recently managed PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Government and Public Services sector business, was sworn in on 4 December as the USN undersecretary.
In the early part of this decade, Modly served as the deputy undersecretary of defence for financial management. He was also the Defense Business Board’s first executive director.
“We must advance agility in how we manage the business mission of the department,” Modly said on 7 November during his Senate Armed Services Committee nomination hearing.
