- Sweden and Finland have declared initial operational capability for a standing naval task group
- Full operational capability for SFNTG is planned for 2023
Sweden and Finland have achieved initial operational capability (IOC) for a Swedish-Finnish Naval Task Group (SFNTG), the heads of the two nations’ navies have announced.
The milestone was confirmed by Vice Admiral Veijo Taipalus, commander of the Finnish Navy, and Rear Admiral Jens Nykvist, chief of Swedish Navy, in a meeting in Helsinki on 1 December. This follows test and evaluation of the SFNTG concept during Exercise ‘Northern Coasts’ in September this year.
Declaration of IOC means that the SFNTG is now certified to conduct naval operations.
