Police arrest a man on suspicion of planning to conduct a mass-shooting attack in Australia's Victoria

AN UNNAMED 20-year-old man - an Australian citizen of Somali origin - was arrested by police during a counter-terrorism operation in the city of Melbourne in the state of Victoria in Australia on 27 November, on suspicion of planning to conduct a mass shooting attack using an automatic rifle in Federation Square in Melbourne on 31 December, Reuters reported. Police stated that the suspect had allegedly accessed documents produced by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The suspect was charged with preparing to commit a terrorist attack and gathering documents likely to facilitate a terrorist act.
