IED and small-arms attack kills at least 305 worshippers in Egypt's North Sinai

28 November 2017

AT LEAST 305 worshippers, including 27 children, were killed and 128 people were wounded when at least 30 suspected Wilayat Sinai militants detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) before opening fire on fleeing worshippers at the Al Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed in Egypt's North Sinai governorate on 24 November, Reuters reported. Reports added that the gunmen wore military-style uniforms and allegedly carried an Islamic State flag. Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, authorities suspected the Islamic State's Wilayat Sinai.
