Thales has completed the acquisition of radar developer Aveillant, it announced on 28 November, adding further counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) capability to its portfolio.
The Cambridge, UK-based radar company has been marketing its software-defined holographic radar technology for a number of years now, which it claims is an alternative to traditional surveillance systems due to its ability to be able to provide a whole picture of the airspace.
This has lent it to the C-UAV market, whereby it can provide detection, tracking, and classification of small unmanned aircraft.
The Gamekeeper UAV detecting radar system has been installed in Monaco, Singapore, and Paris so far and Aveillant partnered with DSNA Services in France in March 2017 to develop this C-UAV technology further.
