- Senate defence appropriators recommend providing USD643.7 billion for fiscal year 2018
- The base budget suggestion, USD581.3 billion, is above sequestration budget caps
US Senate defence appropriators on 21 November recommended providing USD643.7 billion for the Pentagon in fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018), including USD32 billion more in its base budget than allowed under the sequestration budget caps.
The Senate defence spending bill provides USD581.3 billion in base funding, USD64.9 billion in Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) spending, and USD4.5 billion in emergency funding for missile defeat and defence enhancements, according to a Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) statement. Under the Budget Control Act of 2011, base defence spending levels that exceed a specified number are automatically reduced to such a figure, unless both parties are able to strike a deal to raise these caps.
