The National Assembly of Nicaragua has approved ‘Decree 19-2017’ authorising foreign military personnel and platforms to enter the country, and continuing to seek patrons in Moscow and Washington.
The decree, announced on 9 November and viewed by Jane’s , covers the period from 1 January to 30 June 2018 and mentions defence initiatives with Russia, Taiwan, the United States, Venezuela, and more.
The document approves the entry of unspecified military equipment donated by the United States for “military security and to combat drug trafficking,” along with 12 US trainers; 40 troops from Joint Task Force-Bravo and the Wisconsin National Guard and two Black Hawk and two Chinook helicopters for Joint Exercise ‘Medical Readiness Training Exercise’; US trainers for Nicaragua’s Boston Whaler boats; personnel from the Joint Special Operations University; and other conditions.
