Raytheon Ktech to deliver telemetry suite for G550 range support aircraft
Richard Scott - Jane's Navy International
09 November 2017
Key Points
The G550 Telemetry Range Support Aircraft will be outfitted with an advanced airborne telemetry instrumentation system
Raytheon Ktech will develop and integrate a tri-band airborne telemetry system and command destruct/flight termination system
Raytheon’s Ktech business has been awarded a USD79.7 million contract by the US Navy (USN) to equip a customised Gulfstream G550 Conformal Airborne Early Warning (CAEW) aircraft business jet airframe with a telemetry suite for operations on the Point Mugu sea range off the California coast.
Being procured to replace the existing NP-3D Orion Telemetry Range Support Aircraft (TRSA) asset operated by Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 30 (VX 30), the G550 will retain the mould line of the CAEW variant, but will be outfitted with a unique role fit of telemetry sensors and instrumentation instead of the IAI Elta EL/W-2085 dual-band radar/mission suite fitted to the G550 CAEW aircraft variant previously sold to Israel, Italy, and Singapore.
