Leonardo and Thailand’s Defence Technology Institute (DTI) signed an agreement on 8 November to facilitate localised support for the Italian group’s AW101 multirole medium helicopter and possibly other platforms.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) – signed at the Defence & Security 2017 show in Bangkok – will enable the DTI to engage with Thai industry to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services on the helicopter should it be selected for Thai military requirements, Leonardo said.
Brian McEachen, vice-president of Leonardo sales in the Asia Pacific, told Jane’s that the MOU is regarded as a “stepping stone” towards localised support for the helicopters.
