Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to improve its combat capability and readiness for war, according to a report by the state-owned Xinhua news agency.
"The Central Military Commission [CMC] should lead the armed forces to be ready to fight and win wars, and undertake the missions and tasks of the new era entrusted to them by the [Chinese Communist] Party and the people," Xi was quoted as saying on 3 November while inspecting the CMC joint battle command centre as its commander in chief.
Xi, who also had a video chat with Chinese troops stationed at the PLA's new support base in Djibouti, called on the military to “ensure preparedness in all directions and fields”, and demanded that progress be made in joint operation command systems, especially in terms of enhancing efficiency at regional theatre command level.
