The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) commissioned a Bell 412EP helicopter at its Ikeja base in Lagos State on 1 November.
During the ceremony, NAF Chief of Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said the helicopter would be deployed in the northeast of Nigeria to support the campaign against the militant group Boko Haram.
The helicopter is one of two Bell 412EPs handed over to the NAF by the Nigerian Customs Service in January. They were ordered by the government of Rivers State several years ago but were impounded when they arrived in Nigeria due to importation irregularities.
The NAF said the helicopters’ major systems – including their surveillance cameras – had to be sent to be overhauled in the United States and Canada due to the time they had spent in storage.
