US Army’s prepositioned equipment sets now better stocked, quicker to deploy

US Army units can now fall in on forward-deployed equipment sets, known as Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS), more quickly as they are better stocked with necessary equipment, according to General Gus Perna, head of US Army Materiel Command (AMC).

AMC has been adding “shoot, move, and communicate enablers” to its APS, Gen Perna told reporters during a 1 November breakfast meeting. ‘Enablers’ include a range of equipment but Gen Perna specifically pointed to additions of counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) and weapons.

“We started implementing it significantly over the last six months, but I’ve generated this idea for the last year,” he said in response to questions from Jane’s .
