The Ecuadorian Navy commissioned Isla San Cristobal (LG 30) on 15 October at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, on San Cristobal Island, in the Galapagos Archipelago, the navy said.
The new vessel is the first of two Dutch designed Damen Stan Patrol 5009 offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) produced by Ecuadorian shipyard Astilleros Navales Ecuatorianos (Astinave) with Damen Technical Cooperation. Its sister ship, Isla Isabela (LG 31), was launched in May and subsequently delivered to the navy for sea trials. Both vessels, Astinave said, were procured under Plan Apolo, a navy programme intended to enhance the force’s patrolling capabilities to prevent illicit activities at sea.
