UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft are to receive a collision awareness system to help reduce the possibility of mid-air collisions involving both civilian and military aircraft.
UK procurement officials are in the process of finalising a contract with an unnamed supplier and it is planned that the first aircraft will achieve an initial operational capability with the system in 2019.
“An enhanced collision awareness system (ECAS) has been approved and funded for Typhoon; the Ministry of Defence remains committed to embodying this [on the aircraft] as soon as possible,” an RAF spokesman told Jane’s on 18 October.
