The US Senate on 17 confirmed David Trachtenberg in a 79-17 vote to become the next deputy undersecretary of defence for policy.
Trachtenberg most recently headed Shortwaver Consulting and was a senior advisor at Renaissance Strategic Advisors. From 2001-03 he was principal deputy assistant secretary of defence for international security policy, and before that was a professional staffer with the House Armed Services Committee.
The Senate Armed Services Committee first received Trachtenberg's nomination in March and reported it to the full Senate in July, which was a relatively slow advancement.
From his new position, Trachtenberg will weigh in on some important ongoing Pentagon assessments, such as the Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) and Ballistic Missile Defense Review (BMDR).
