Harris introduced its latest F7030 Generation (Gen) 3 Clip-on Weapon Sight at the annual Association of the US Army symposium in Washington, DC.
The F7030 sight includes a new gallium arsenide photocathode component that provides a much higher sensitivity than a Gen 2 sight, Steve Perez, director of original equipment manufacturer sales for night vision systems for Harris, told Jane's .
Earlier Gen 2 sights were equipped with the S20 cathode.
The night vision sight also includes a quiet image intensifier, Perez said.
The refractive lens provides high-performance light collection and it is optimised for use with either green or white phosphor imager intensifiers.
The F7030 can be mounted in front of the day sight on standard assault and long-range rifles. A user does not have to recalibrate their sight with the F7030, he added.
The night vision sight, made in partnership with Knights Armaments, weighs 2.9 lb (1.31 kg), has a field of view of 9°, and has a range of 150 m to 1000 m depending on available sources of light.
The sight also features the patented Single Interchangeable Battery (SIB) which allows the use of either one 3 V CR123 or one standard AA battery and can provide more than 24 hours of continuous operation, according to Harris.
