US Army leaders are now determining how to posture the thousands of Humvees that remain in the service’s formations as it prepares to field new Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) that are partially replacing ageing Humvees.
A full-rate production decision for the JLTV is expected in December 2018, and early in 2019 the service plans to begin fielding them to the 10th Mountain Division, Colonel Shane Fullmer, project manager for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, told reporters on 10 October.
However, Humvees will remain in army formations out to at least 2040, and a “decision is moving through the building now”, Col Fullmer said, referring to US Army Headquarters at the Pentagon.
