Kremlin maritime threat assessment highlights Norway as potential cause of naval conflict

On 3 October Russia made public its most recent top level maritime threat assessment, distributed at the end of September to members of the Maritime Board led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin and then sent to President Vladimir Putin.

The document, entitled ‘On a comprehensive assessment of the state of Russia’s national security in the field of maritime activities in 2016’ was disclosed by the Kommersant newspaper. Global instability is blamed mainly on the actions of the United States and its allies to contain the Kremlin’s geopolitical influence, with the growth of international terrorism and illegal migration as supplementary phenomena.
