Work is claimed to have been halted at Navantia’s shipyards in north west Spain by trade union pickets of striking workers from supplier companies.
They blocked gates to the adjoining Ferrol yards in Galicia from early morning on 5 October to prevent the state-owned company’s workers from entering and said they aimed to continue their demonstration for the next week.
The stoppage among supplier companies’ employees has been called by the regional Confederación Intersindical Galega (CIG) union federation.
A union spokesperson said, “Workers in the ancillary industry are seconding a strike convened against the employers’ refusal to abide by the payment of salary agreements from the year 2001.”
