Kalashnikov acquires shipbuilder

Russian small arms group Kalashnikov has continued a strategy of diversification into shipbuilding with the announcement that it will acquire Upper Volga ship repair and construction operator Nobel Brothers in the first quarter of 2018.

The plant specialises in the construction and repair of oil tankers, cargo vessels, yachts, and survey vessels.

The acquisition comes after Kalashnikov purchased Rybinsk and Vympel shipyards during 2015 and 2016; organisations that built pleasure-craft vessels in addition to boats with military applications, such as amphibious assault and support, search-and-rescue, and anti-piracy.
