US Navy targets cold valve in Super Hornet, Growler oxygen supply issues

04 October 2017

Key Points

  • The US Navy hopes warming a valve will improve oxygen supply issues on Super Hornet, Growler aircraft
  • The service has struggled with pilots in these aircraft suffering from physiological issues

The US Navy (USN) is targeting a faulty valve as it continues to investigate oxygen supply issues in its Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet multirole fighter and Boeing EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft.

Rear Admiral select Sarah Joyner, physiological episode action team lead, told reporters on 4 October that a valve likes to freeze, so the service is adding a heater blanket to keep it from freezing and blocking oxygen flow.
