Islamic State militants kill at least 16 people in police station attack in Syria's Damascus

ACCORDING to the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 16 people, including eight police officers and an unspecified number of civilians, were killed when four militants, including two suicide bombers, attacked a police station in the al-Midan neighbourhood in Syria's capital Damascus on 2 October. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. Casualty figures provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights cannot be independently verified but have been assessed to be the most reliable.
