IN A STATEMENT released on 29 September via Telegram, the Islamic State's al-Naba publication announced a military campaign named after their former spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani in Syria's Deir al-Zour, Hasaka, and Homs governorates, BBC Monitoring reported. Al-Naba also claimed that Islamic State militants had recaptured high ground overlooking the town of Sukhna in Homs governorate, and had perpetrated a suicide attack in the village of Mazlum in Hasaka governorate, allegedly killing dozens of Russian soldiers and security forces personnel. The statement did not include a casualty breakdown. The claims could not be independently verified.
