A partnership between GE, the Australian Department of Defence (DoD), and the government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has developed a data analytics solution to gauge the performance and efficiency of engines that power Royal Australian Navy (RAN) warships.
The DoD said in a statement on 3 October that the collaboration leverages an application developed by CSIRO’s ‘Data61’ innovation group, which processes data from GE LM2500 gas turbines fitted to RAN ships to identify areas of performance enhancement. Ships that will be fitted with the system include the RAN’s Adelaide- and Anzac-class frigates, which are both powered by LM2500 gas turbine engines.
