NAVSEA awards Columbia-class SSBN development contract

The US Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) Command has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation a sole-source USD5.071 billion contract for the Integrated Product and Process Development design completion for the US Navy’s (USN’s) Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs).

The contract also provides for component and technology development, missile tube module, and reactor compartment bulkhead prototyping and manufacturing efforts as well as United Kingdom Strategic Weapon Support System kit manufacturing for the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines. The contract includes foreign military sales to the United Kingdom (14%).

Work is expected to be completed by December 2031.
