BAE Systems has been contracted to upgrade the radar warning receiver (RWR) units of South Korea’s fleet of Lockheed Martin KF-16 fighting Falcon combat aircraft.
The USD49.6 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal, which was announced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 18 September, covers the upgrade of the legacy RWR currently fitted to 134 of the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (RoKAF’s) F-16C/D-standard aircraft.
Work will be performed in the United States, and will be complete by 31 July 2020.
This contract is part of a wider effort to upgrade 134 of the RoKAF’s 170 strong KF-16 fleet, for which the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Lockheed Martin was awarded USD1.2 billion in late 2016.
