Bahrain has requested two of Swiftships’ new 35 m Fast Patrol Boats (FPBs).
The proposed sale was announced on 8 September, when the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notified Congress that the US State Department had approved the sale of the two vessels at an estimated cost of USD60.25 million.
The DSCA said the vessels would be equipped with BAE Systems 25 mm Mk 38 Mod 3 gun systems and FLIR Systems SeaFlir 380-HD electro-optical systems.
Swiftships has already delivered 12 35 m patrol boats to the Iraqi Navy with 30 mm MSI Seahawk gun systems, but the Louisiana-based company confirmed to Jane’s that Bahrain has requested its new FPB design.
