Details released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Royal Navy (RN) have given first firm indications of the mission requirements and performance characteristics being demanded of the new Type 31e frigate.
At the same time, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sir Philip Jones has acknowledged that the service must be “hard-headed” in setting realistic requirements – and sticking to them – to avoid programme delays and cost escalation.
