Lockheed Martin’s second Global Positioning System III (GPS III) satellite for the US Air Force (USAF) recently completed acoustic environmental testing, according to a company statement.

The test is designed to literally shake loose anything not properly attached. The satellite was continuously blasted with deafening sound reaching 140 decibels in a specialised test chamber equipped with high-power horns.

For comparison, 140 decibels is about as loud as an aircraft carrier deck while human hearing starts to damage at about 80 decibels.
