The Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) Dual I and its associated weapon systems were tested against a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) target on 30 August, according to a US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) statement.
MDA and sailors aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), an Aegis baseline 9.C1 equipped destroyer, fired a salvo of two SM-6 Dual I missiles against the MRBM target to demonstrate the system's sea-based terminal (SBT) endo-atmospheric defensive capability, the agency said.
This test appears to mirror a 14 December 2016 exercise in which John Paul Jones also fired two SM-6 Dual I interceptors at an incoming MRBM.
