The US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) on 21 August awarded two Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) contracts for its prospective Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) weapon system requirement. The GBSD is the weapon system replacement for the ageing LGM-30 Minuteman III ICBM.
Boeing and Northrop Grumman were awarded USD349.2 million and USD328.6 million respectively, following a competitive acquisition process in which three offers were received. Both companies are expected to finalise work by 20 August 2020. “The companies selected were determined to provide the best overall value to the warfighter and taxpayers based on the source selection’s evaluation factors.
