Damen begins building Mexican Navy’s new patrol vessel

Damen started building a long-range ocean patrol vessel (Patrulla Oceánica de Largo Alcance: POLA) for the Mexican Navy, according to a 17 August navy statement. The vessel is Damen Group’s Sigma 10514 frigate.

Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding, in the Netherlands, will construct two modules, while Mexico will construct the other four, Damen explained. The modules will then be integrated in Mexico between June and September 2018 and the launch is tentatively scheduled for October.

The vessel will measure 107 m long, weigh 2,570 tonnes, have a max speed of 27 kt, and have up to 20 days endurance.
