India approves Apache procurement for army

18 August 2017

India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the INR41.7 billion (USD651.3 million) import of six Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters for the Indian Army (IA).

The six helicopters, which were approved on 17 August, are part of an option of 11 that was included in an INR139.5 billion contract for 22 Apaches for the Indian Air Force (IAF) that was placed in October 2015.

The MoD’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, has decided that any remaining Apaches for the Army Aviation Corps (AAC) would be acquired ‘later’ to meet its projected requirement for 33 such platforms.
